Many times I have thought about creating a personal webpage, but I had never taken the next step. Now finally, as a new year begins, here I am, willing to share my experience with you. I work at DIE (Departamento de Ingeniería Electrónica) of UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid). For four years I have been researching in computer architecture and electronics, and I
hope will finish my PhD by the end of this year. During all this time I have learned a few things. Mainly by making mistakes and having to correct them. But also by making things right. I have visited some foreing universities (EPFL and INSA de Rennes) and met many different people. They have taught me other ways of thinking and doing. Some of them have enlightened me, some have misguided me, but I have learned from them all. I am glad to say that, four years after beginning my research activity, I am wiser than before. Not too much, but just a little. And that is what this blog is for. Sharing my experience.
I must reckon, this is not my first blog, but it is my first “serious” blog. Posting with my real name. And maybe more important, writing in English. So please excuse me any possible mistake I make. “An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made, in a narrow field“, said Niels Bohr, and I hope to become an expert writer and researcher. But right now I am just a rookie at both. So there will be mistakes to learn from.
In this blog I will write about my research topics: wordlength optimization, hardware architecture and high performance computing. But also about several other things. I want to share with you the way I see the research and academic world. To tell you the problems I found and how I overcame them, and all those tools and routines I have used and familiarized with during this time. High-speed Internet has given us a perfect way to improve the way we communicate with our colleagues, and teamwork must become 2.0. Also, during the last few months I have come to realize how important Personal Management and Productivity are. And I will, undoubtedly, write about it too. There are many things I want to write about, and so much more I know I can learn from other people. I intend to write regularly and out of personal experience. And I hope you enjoy it.
So be welcome and make yourself at home. This adventure is just starting.
